A Day of Remembrance

In memory of the men and women of the armed services, who were not able to return to their home countries, and dedicated to the families who mourned them.

My Furry Friend

Hybrid, designer mutt,

Eskimo, Poodle bred twice,

Eski-Poo-Poo, named, Frosty,

Frizzy, woolly, snowy fur,

Inky dot eyes, large ebony button nose,

Short, floppy ears,

Four little legs, Lilliputian paws.

Doggie K-mart greeter,

Wet, rosy tongue, panting enthusiastically,

His bird-size heart races,

Stubby tail wags like a metronome on steroids.

A berserk friendly gene adheres

Frosty glue to arm, leg, foot, slipper or shoe.

“Play ball?” he invites,

Squeaky toy thrown,

“Fetch!”

Alpha dogged into single paw guarding,

Challenges owner to toy possession.

Toddler photocopying via two hind legs prancing,

Shows off with twirling pirouettes.

Trampoline poodle legs create

Lamb-like, four-legged loftiness,

Boing! Boing! Boing!

Dreamstate, fluffy puppy counting o’er fencing rails.

When scolded, “Grrr…” is his witty repartee.

Territorial canine marking sires window critter vigils,

Trespassing penalty: ballistic barking,

Leviathan disappointment: cats reject his friendship, sulks.

Plays, sleeps, eats, sniffs,

Pasture frolics: 'Merry Dung Rolling'

Rebreed mutation: Eski-Poo-Poo-Poo:

Frosty, Malodorous, Stinky Poo!

Free Verse Poetry," I am a ..."

I am a Clock

Early morning of nuptials, love was passion,

As noon arrived,

The child we brought into this world

Added joy and contentment.

To see her blossom,

Mid afternoon into a caring adult,

Was our reward for the loved we shared,

Early evening, grandchildren added depth.

Life’s clock blessed us with longevity and permitted,

Desire to age, like vintage wine,

Deep, full of character, satisfying.

As midnight descends on our marriage,

Sweet dreams my beloved, with generous love,

We’ll meet again and embrace in the cosmos.

“I am a Metronome”
How did my owner spend my ticking?

In childhood, obliviously,

In teens, freely and joyously,

Confident a long future lay ahead.

In early adulthood, recklessly,

Climbing and aspiring without restraint,

Gambling that the future won’t be cut short.

In the middle years, more wisely,

And sharing with a partner and children.

Shadows gather, foretelling pendulum’s swings finiteness,

Natural universe co-operatively,

Laughter cherished, compensating for sorrow,

As grandparents and parents fade.

As the metronome's beats wan, introspectively,

Tragedy is: “I’m sorry,” unsaid,

Something undone or vista unseen,

Within the time that was measured out for me.

Writing Journal (Poetry)

Haiku

Fall is approaching early

Reds, golds, oranges, replace greens

Soon no leaves are here!

Butterfly Sonnet

As summer wanes, the monarch takes to flight,

It has been gathering its strength through long summer days,

The gentle creatures fly from my sight,

Southward their wings beat toward this part of their life’s phase.

At night they stop to replenish their thirst,

A collector with a net spies them in repose,

Their beautiful wings were their curse,

The tiny butterflies fight the bonds of death’s throes.

The nylon breaks; they are free to survive,

Exhausted from their journey they arrive,

One of the world’s smallest fluttering elite,

Their circles of life are now complete.

They are as precious as a world gem,

The sun-baked earth welcomes them.

Free verse,
To My Darling:

In the early morning of our nuptials, love was passion,
As noon arrived,
The infant we brought into this world
has added to my joy and contentment

Our child blossomed
at mid afternoon into a caring adult,
A tender grown woman is life’s reward to parents,
At early evening, grandchildren added depth.

Time has blessed us with longevity and permitted,
Our desire for each other to age like vintage wine
To be deep, full of character and satisfying.
As midnight descends on our marriage,

"Sweet dreams my beloved, the depth of your love,
Will remain with me into eternity."
